Mission
Our Mission
Our mission is to Assist New Milford in protecting
and preserving our surviving farmlands
Here is why we believe our mission is so important:
- Ensures survival of our remaining farmlands for agricultural use, thus contributing to our local economy
- Provides fresh, healthy seasonal produce that is not processed industrially, shipped at added expense from great distances or blended from different sources or unidentified origins
- Provides positive tax benefits—unlike residential development, working farms can generate more in local tax revenue than they cost in municipal services
- Helps limit residential sprawl which burdens town services and schools
- Offers opportunities for agro-tourism, a fast-growing Connecticut travel industry segment
- Preserves barns and silos, farmhouses, meadows, stone walls and rolling viewsheds, among semi-rural New Milford’s most attractive features
- Affords survival of wildlife corridors for birds and animals
- Strengthens the link with New Milford’s rich agricultural heritage
